Salmon Fishing

The Sacramento River is the largest river in California and the river salmon fishing on the Sacramento River is in a league of its own! After the salmon closure a few years back, the population has come back with a vengeance. During 2011 the Sacramento River salmon fishing had never been so good, only to be outdone by 2012; we caught fish every trip out last season with limits very common.

Now in 2013 fish & wildlife biologists are predicting 5 to 10 times as many salmon to enter the Sacramento River system. If that's the only indication of what's to happen, you better clear some freezer space & fire up the smoker 'cause it's going to be on!

Be sure to book early to get your preferred dates. Come enjoy the fun of hooking & fighting these gigantic wild king salmon.

Recipe: Hughize's Special Salmon

I learned this recipe from a friend and fishing buddy over 25 years ago.
  • Take a salmon fillet (skin on)
  • Cut in half, or thirds
  • Pat dry with paper towel
  • Season with lemon pepper, garlic powder & a pinch of dill
  • Coat meat side with a thin layer of Best Foods mayonnaise
  • Put on BBQ, skin side down cook in low heat for 8-12 minutes until meat separates from skin
  • Then put fillet back on BBQ to cook another minute or two. Do not turn. Mayo should melt into fish to make a nice moist fillet.
Usually served over a bed of rice.
